Algonquin, Illinois is a village located in McHenry and Kane counties. According to the United States Census Bureau, Algonquin had a population of approximately 30,410 people in 2014. The village is situated northeast of Downtown Chicago, Illinois and is located about 40 miles from the center of the city.

Algonquin is situated in an area that was originally inhabited by Pottawatomi Native Americans. In 1834, the first white settler, Samuel Gillilan, arrived in Algonquin. Shortly after the arrival of Gillilan, other white settlers began moving into the area. Algonquin was named by Gillilan in 1847 and in 1890 the Village of Algonquin was officially formed.
